Finish a book get a free meal

Well Omar is not the NCO of the Year for UT. At the dinner award ceremony both of us were secretly wishing that he didn't win. Now he has time to devote his time and studying into other really important areas. As we were driving home he told me " Now I have time to finish my book and we can go out to dinner". Omar and I have been married for 3 1/2 yrs and during this time he has not finished a book, I on the other hand have finished more than I can remember. We give each other a book for christmas and he has bought military books to study but he either gets to busy or especially with the military books he reads and rereads pages so he understands them completely. This book that he is currently reading he has started and stopped about 100 times. So I made him a deal that once he finished his 1st book as a married man that I would take him out to dinner. He likes to give me up dates on his progress. One day get called me and said " Hey hon I just wanted to call and say that I have hit the 100 page mark" So proud

Poor Omar

Omar started his NCO of the Year competition last night. I was there for the opening social/briefing for the competition, he wanted me there to size up his competition. Some tough competitor but I think Omar got this one. One thing that we didn't take into consideration was the weather. Got to love UT weather, so unpredictable. He started his competition at 6am to alittle rain, then around 10ish it started hailing and hard raining for 5min and then stopping which has continued through out the day. I feel so bad for him b/c he is in the mountains at Camp Williams and I bet the weather is alot worse and colder. Just hearing about all the stuff his is going to be doing this weekend makes me tired for him. All those calories he is burning off right now CRAZY.

Going Private

We will be going private some time next month. There are alot of secret squirrel stuff that will be going on in our family and we don't want the whole world knowing about it (Just the cool people with security clearances from me). So if you want to follow us as we experience some crazy new things send me an email at happychelle23@yahoo.com or leave me a comment. Thanks

I KNOW I KNOW

The Saavedra family is back,I'm a horrible person blah blah blah. Here is a recap of what has been happening to us since the last post.

Sept- Moved into our new apartment in Taylorsville. Cute place (not alot of storage BOO) so we still have boxes in the back bedroom that we haven't unpacked b/c no room. Started going to our new branch. That's right they have branches in UT. They have definitely put us to work. Omar is in the Elders Quorum Pres and I have 2 callings Sunday School Teacher and Chair Women of Enrichment ( so now I have to go b/c I'm the one planing the activities that Branch Pres is a smart man)

Oct thru Dec
I got a job. I work for Salt Lake Community College as a Reader/Scribe for a blind student. It's a good job doesn't pay much but its a job. Omar was doing more training up at Camp Williams. I turned the BIG 28 in Nov. Thankfully my birthday was not on Thanksgiving that year but I had Midterms or a big test that night (Can't remember) and didn't do much for the birthday. Finished another semester of school with a pretty good GPA but changed my major again. If you are counting with me that is #4 I think. Christmas was good. Did alot of driving all along the Wasatch front to one families house one day and then the other. Didn't spend alot of time at our home, but we did get up a Christmas tree this year, that's making progress.

Jan thru Now

Started another semester which is getting kind of intense Lots of end of semester projects/presentations to do. I get about a 2wk break then its summer school for me. But I am grateful that I don't have to take a semester off to save money for school I can just keep going till I graduate, which will be never if I keep changing my major. Omar has been doing alot of training and studying for a competition that starts 2nite at Camp Williams. He is competing for the title of NCO of the Year for the State of UT. I am soo proud of him for all of his hard work and dedication to this competition. As you can see he has been promoted to E-5 and I was able to put that rank on him at last months drill. It was a very proud moment for me to know that all of his hard work was paying off. Cross your fingers that he wins this weekend b/c the regional competition is in Hawaii sometime this summer. We are in the home stretch for preparing/training for Omar to leave this summer for his deployment. It has come up really quickly. I have been keeping myself really busy so that I don't have to think about it but it is right around the corner so I am forced now to think and plan accordingly.
That's whats happening in our family right at this moment. Alot of changes but I have seen the Lord's hand directing our family and pouring blessings and comfort upon us for the changes and sacrifices that we are about endure.

Smarty Smart

I just found out last night while on Trax going to school that I have classes at the Library Square campus and not the Liberty Square. Personally I think Liberty Square flows better but that's just me.

New outfit and nowhere to go

As you can tell from my title the interview didn't go as well as I would have liked. Yesterday Omar wanted to go with me to run some errands. The errands that I needed to run were finding a new outfit for my interview. That is always a fun adventure. I don't like clothes shopping at all. And don't get me started on having to try things on. I just don't do it. Well as you can guess the shopping trip wasn't fun at all. I went from store to store looking for something to jump out at me saying "buy me and I guarantee you a job". Omar can only take shopping for soo long so after the 1st store he was done. To be honest with you I was too but I needed an outfit.

So with outfit on plus jewelry (I don't wear jewelry regularly but desperate times call for desperate measures ) I drove to salt lake were my interview was arriving 10min early of course. I get in the room and there are 4 people wanting to interview me. 4 people just for a part-time student like job. I do the shake everyones hands, sit down, lets get started. The head interviewer says "I want to give you a brief summary of what we are looking for ". Then the next thing out of her mouth is "the position is from 4pm to 8pm. What!!!! I specificly setup my schedule so that I am taking classes in the evening so I could work during the day. So needless to say the interview stopped 3min after I arrived and I still have no job. Back to the drawing board for me. I HATE DOING THIS

Back with a snazy new Laptop

Yup thats right I have a new laptop so no excusses for not updating the blog. Since moving we have been staying with Omar's family (Thank you Thank you) while we started to figure things out on what we want to do/where we want to live. We Finally recieved our DITY money so we have the funds to go apartment hunting. Omar was able to work for the Guard for 3 wks once we moved back and now will be working in Murray starting Tues. That is a great blessing b/c I have not had that great of luck in the job search. I have sent out many many applications and have only heard back from 2 places. One of them was from a place in Park City and that is just too far for me to travel and going thru Parleys Canyon in the winter is not my kind of fun if you know what I mean. The 2nd place I have an interview with them on Tues. its in Salt Lake so wish me luck!!!
So what does Michelle do all day with no job. Well I am in school. I haven't been in school since 07 so I am pretty stoked to be taking classes. So stoked that I am taking 16 credits this semester. I am in the Paralegal Program at SLCC I am taking all of my classes up at the Liberty Square campus downtown. With the free bus/trax pass it is a breeze commuting from Lehi to Downtown. I am really excited about my program and what I can do in the real world after I graduate. I have always loved the law. Watching Law and Order and all of those other crime shows so I think I have found what I want to do as a career. Its a nice feeling to know that you are studying to do something that you really know you are going to enjoy more than 75% of the time.
We don't have any pictures yet b/c the cord is pack away with all of our stuff. But rest asured we still look the same. Once we get our stuff in our new home we will have some pictures
